Local Doctor Jim Rodda sat down using the Monterey Herald to clarify his philosophy on life, and how he has made it to A century old in great shape. "Remember. The brain is like a machine. If you do not use it, it's going to rust, it will degrade, it gets obsolete. To keep up something, you need to use it," he was quoted saying. Also, he believes in remaining very active. "When we bought home 26 years ago, my friends said, 'stairs your age, are you crazy?" his wife Gloria of 61 years told the Herald. "But the steps are exactly the reason we wanted this house. And all of these years running up and down those stairs," she said. The two appear to be a fantastic healthy and happy couple. In June, they're going to Spain and from there will take a cruise to Portugal, Morocco and also the Canary Islands. Gloria, 89, and 2 girlfriends recently returned from another outing to Paris. And Jim still drives himself to Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula (CHOMP) for a 7 a.m. meeting with cancer doctors each Friday. He marvels on the advances in medical technology that have happened throughout the last A hundred years. "We started with a guy using a black bag and a few aspirin, and we progressed to any or all the points we could do today. For me, the most difficult part is that folks are losing faith within the system and turning to alternative methods, most of which are dangerous," he says. At Family inHome Caregiving, we stress a nutritional diet, exercise and achieving lots of social stimulation, things that did actually have kept Dr. & Mrs. Rodda going strong for therefore many decades. "Longevity is all about keeping going," Dr. Rodda told the Herald. "You can't permit them to place you in stock, that they do and they're going to continue to try to accomplish. Haven't any illusions about longevity, you really need to work on it," he states. Good advice for everyone.
